Begay, Roland
| | ROLAND HOGAN BEGAY was born southwest of Gallup on the Navajo Indian reservation, and learned silversmithing from his father. Begay creates scenes from Navajo life using an overlay technique in which he cuts out hogans, people, horses, corrals and other items in a traditional Navajo setting, and solders them to a background of silver or gold. His work has won awards at the Gallup Intertribal Ceremonial and at the Heard Museum's annual show in Phoenix. All of Roland's pieces are available in 14 karat gold or sterling silver. The silver may be ordered with oxidized background (black), plain silver background or stippled (bright white) background. All bracelets are available in 14 karat gold. | | | | |

Roland does each stitch by hand to get the realistic effect, as well as using silver, oxidized silver and copper to recreate the colors of a real basket. This pendant measures 2-7/8" diameter.
