Lopez Butterfly Pot, POTML8-1

Maribel Lopez comes from a very talented family of potters from the Mata Ortiz village, in Mexico. Her father creates scenes of the forest, her sister etches fine lined geometric pots and Maribel paints beautiful, birds, butterflies and insects. Her attention to detail and color palette are amazingly sophisticated. This is a new generation of creativity coming from the village that is so well known for their fine handcrafted pottery.

"Spruce Tree Mug" by Clint Swink who is one of few people who has mastered the Replicas of the Anazasi ancient people. Each piece of pottery comes with a provenance, telling the location found, the museum were it is housed and how closely Clint got to reproducing the original.

Fetish Pot, CRBF-461

Ceremonial Jar is a receptacle for fetishes when they are not in use. Traditionally they are made of clay, covered with mud or blood and encrusted with turquoise and housed, fetishes, hair and pollen. This is a replica of a Shaman's hunting or ceremonial vessel for healing and other such to appease the spirits.

Eteeyan - Jemez Pottery, POTME6-1

Mary Louise Eteeyan is a self taught potter. She learned by observing other potters in her village at Jemez. Mary Louise is known for her beautiful signature Butterfly design, it appears on all her vases and lidded pots. The featured wedding vase is made from the clay she dug on her pueblo. All her pottery is hand work clay, hand coiled, and fired in the traditional manner in an outdoor pit.

Anita Suazo of the Santa Clara Pueblo has been making award winning pottery for 50 some years. Anita's fine pottery began placing at the Santa Fe Indian Market in 1979. The featured pot has some of her favorite design elements, rain clouds and kiva steps.
