Geometric and Other Weavings

Our geometric weavings include those weavings we cannot place under any of the other listings, including those fine pieces that are Hispanic, rather than Navajo.

Hispanic Weavings

The Saltillo or serape wearing blankets worn by the Spanish were a direct influence on the designs of the Navajo weavers. These original blankets are long and narrow and woven in two pieces and sewn together with a hole left in the center for the head.

Sashes are woven on a narrow belt loom and are generally worn by the Navajo and Pueblo women to cinch in their dresses.
