Iris Youvella Nampeyo-Iris is Hopi/Tewa and of the Corn Clan, from the Hopi Pueblo, she has been actively making pottery since 1960. Featured is a classic Nampeyo hand polished and traditionally fired Buffware Jar. The flowing lines, the buff color and the applique`ed corn stalk are all her signature techniques.
Erla Graham is a Native Delaware/Sioux, she is known for creating these detailed and decorated dolls. Erla hand carved the body from wood and paints the figures, then they are clothed and decorated with fur, feather, cloth and hair, to authenticate the tribe she is portraying. Similar dolls have come up at auctions with estimates between $1500.00 and $2000.00. Toh-Atin gallery currently has 4 Native dolls by Erla in a collection that is for sale.
Durango arts and craftsman Eric Hodges creates these detailed one of a kind Knife and Sheath sets. Truly a collectors item for the sportsman. The deer skin is saddle fringe laced, the turquoise is inlaid and the blade is hand forged. An amazing amount of work and talent in each piece. The knife is 12 inches long and the total height is 18 inches tall.
Maribel Lopez comes from a very talented family of potters from the Mata Ortiz village, in Mexico. Her father creates scenes of the forest, her sister etches fine lined geometric pots and Maribel paints beautiful, birds, butterflies and insects. Her attention to detail and color palette are amazingly sophisticated. This is a new generation of creativity coming from the village that is so well known for their fine handcrafted pottery.
Philander Begay is creating detailed one of a kind Tufa cast sterling silver and 14 kt jewelry. Featured is a Mudhead Katchina that is dancing under a 14kt gold sun. This pendant measures 3 1/4 inches long including the bale, and is 1 1/2 inches wide. Philanders pieces are all one of a kind works of art, the process of Tufa is hand carving the mold from porous limestone, then molten silver is poured into the mold. the mold does not survive the process.
