Robert Rivera did a Kachina series and this is his interpretation of the Crow Mother Kachina. The main body is a gourd, and is embellished with feathers, lapis, shell, fabric and other materials. Each of Robert's unique one of a kind pieces are signed and dated.

Robert Rivera recreates traditional Pueblo art forms in gourds. The Crow Mother Kachina (Angwusnasomtaka) is a figure of great dignity and considered by many Hopi to be the Mother of all Kachinas. This is Robert's interpretation of that doll. Measures 16 inches tall.

Crow Mother or Angwusnasomtaka appears during the Bean dance, she is considered to be the Mother of all Kachina. Often seen with Yucca fronds, symbolic of whips for discipline for the children during this initiation into the Katsina Cult. Chester's Crow Mother is cottonwood, pigments and feathers.
