"Fishman" by Cortez, Colorado Native American artist Norman Lansing. Norman designs the story into the pot with a Scraffito technique, that is etched through layers of glazed green ware. His pottery is detailed and imaginative, every time you look at the etchings you can see a new image or pattern. This pot is 5 1/2 inches wide by 7 inches tall.
Norman Lansing delicately incises his spiritually inspired images into the clay pottery. They are contemporary and unique works or art. In " Let My Dog By", the story wraps around the pot following what appears to be a spine or trail. There are stars, feathers and animals that surround the different human figures. The pot measures 8 1/2 inches by 7 inches tall.
"Journeyman"-Scraffito is the delicate incising or carving of a design on to the surface of clay. Norman does his unique, one of a kind, original works in clay. He considers the clay to be his canvas. Norman signs and titles all of his carved pottery on the bottom of the vessel. Layers of detail, layers of carving and layers of imagination. This is the style of artist Norman Lansing. The flowing design on the pot leads the viewer from one scene in to the next. Figurative, abstract, traditional, the imagery is all connected.
"Sixth Star"- This is hand painted and etched by Norman Lansing on a molded green ware pot. It measures 6.5 by 4 inches high, and features scenes including a Sunface and Kachinas among other images and geometric designs.
"Thunder Mesa"- Hand painted and etched by Norman Lansing on a green ware pot. It measures 7" in diameter and 2.5" in height and features scenes made with a variety of images and geometric designs combined together.
"Journery flight" - This is hand painted and etched by Norman Lansing on a green ware pot. It measures 6.75" in diameter and 4.5" in height and features scenes including flying eagles among other images and geometric designs.
"Sky Tripper"- is painted and etching by Norman Lansing, on a green ware pot. The birds are probably eagles in different forms from stylized to realistic. Typical of how Norman depicts animals and people in his art.
"Peace Rock"- Scraffito, hand painted glaze and etching by Norman Lansing on green ware pottery. Imagination, storytelling, and precise carving with a blade are what Norman does with ease and perfection. Each pot is a titled work of artistry.
"Sun People" is hand glazed and etched in to the surface of green ware by Norman Lansing. Delicate lines form intricate designs and detailed imagery. These are fabulous story teller jars, each is unique and and full of tradition and history, as told by Norman Lansing.
